When I was young, I had no idea what Christmas was, and I only felt Christmas atmosphere when I entered high school. Now, Christmas has become an international holiday like the New Year in the Western calendar. At the end of November onwards, every time I go to the supermarket to see the decorated stalls selling pine trees and Santa Claus figurines, I feel very warm inside. This year is the 3rd time I have celebrated a Christmas abroad, the first was in Australia in 2013, the second was in Germany and Denmark last year 2018 and the third is this year 2019 in Spain.
When I have the opportunity to experience Christmas in Western countries, I feel the warm holiday spirit like I remember from Tet in Vietnam. And this is a special occasion for everyone in the family to gather, enjoy traditional dishes on Christmas Eve and then exchange gifts.
In Denmark, there is a tradition after the main meal that everyone will gather to play games to receive gifts. The first time I experienced a 6-hour meal in Denmark at Christmas, people ate a variety of dishes of all kinds, then played games to receive gifts and then ate and talked again. I feel very warm like the feeling of New Year’s Eve every family member gathers together.
Below is a compilation of videos about the Christmas atmosphere that pervaded everywhere in Germany, Denmark last year and Spain this year. Particularly in Australia, I do not have any photos of Christmas celebrations in Australia 😀 I was probably focusing on making money at the time.
I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, happy times with the people you love, and a Happy New Year.
