Tet Is Coming. Let’s Get Ready To Celebrate The Year Of The Rat 2020.
Tet or the Vietnamese New Year is the most important festival of the Vietnamese people. It is the time to mark the arrival of spring based on the Lunar calendar.
Putting all worries aside, Tet is the perfect time for relatives and members to gather, catch up and maintain family traditions. Tet is also a good opportunity for us to cook Tet meals together and pray to our ancestors for happiness and good luck.
Vietnamese people believe that the color of red and yellow will bring good fortune, which may explain why these colors can be seen everywhere in Lunar New Year.
We prepare for Tet by cooking special holiday foods, cleaning and decorating our house. Like the pine tree for Christmas holiday in the Western countries, Vietnamese people buy many kinds of flowers and plants to decorate their house during Tet.
The most popular food for Tet is Banh Tet or Banh Chung that is a traditional Vietnamese rice cake. It is made from glutinous rice, mung beans, pork and other ingredients.
The country is vibrant and colourful during Tet festival. So you will have a chance to learn more about culture of Vietnam.
Above all, I wish this Lunar New Year brings for you and your family lots of joy, happiness, good health and indeed wealth.
